MINKE MARINE
A NEW LOW-COST APPROACH TO AIR LUBRICATION
MAKING MARITIME DECARBONIZATION AFFORDABLE

Briefly – A New High Value Energy Saving Device:
The Minke Marine Air Lubrication System (MMALS) is a new, unique approach to Air Lubrication, bringing the opportunity for low-cost vessel decarbonization. Installed aboard the 55,000 DWT Saga Future it is proving fuel savings and robust operation of a simple Energy Saving Devise (ESD), efficiency is enhanced by not using compressors or blowers but is not “passive”.
Using as much of the vessel’s existing hardware as possible, the low-cost decarbonization system is simple to use, physically robust, and is providing consistent performance across different sailing states and weather conditions. This is possible because of the fundamentally different approach to bubble generation and release.
A Minke Marine ALS is operating on board the Saga Future, a 55,000DWT General Cargo vessel. Installed in March 2025, the performance, of this low-capacity, two hull penetration system is excellent – the fuel flow graphs below are at constant RPM. It is clear to see when the system is on and when it is off.
